“It came about at the seventh time, that he said, “Behold, a cloud as small as a man’s hand is coming up from the sea.” And he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down, so that the heavy shower does not stop you.’ In a little while the sky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy shower.” 1 Kings 18:44
Attempting great and achieving great things does not mean that we know everything about the journey. Sometimes we are actually disappointed in trying to do what God asks us to do. But it is persistent trust and consistent obedience to the divine signal, “the cloud as small as a man’s hand” in the case of Elijah, that often eventually brings the manifestation of the promise.
We need to follow the hands that point to the horizon, and the voice that beckons us to the unknown. As we embrace what the invincible God has hidden in the future for those who love him and are called according to his purpose. “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived, – the things God has prepared for those who love him-” 1 Cor 2:9
There are many uncertainties in our world today, there are many security situations, economic challenges and spiritual decadence, yet in the midst of these challenges, we need to see what the Lord is doing, though it may look small. We need to thank him for the glimpse of hope. As we hear what the Lord is saying, his words become a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
Beloved, do not faint and do not stop looking up. When we see this hand, we are sure that His abiding presence will be with us as his mighty hands make ways. Is the Lord prompting you to embark on a project? Is he asking you to attend a new course? Is he asking you to move to a new location? Is he asking you to reconcile with that person that offended you? Is he asking you to give more time to rest, listen to him and spend more time with the family? Whatever the case may be, beloved be rest assured even if you have attempted it and it did not work more than 6 times, in this seventh month, God is saying, “Behold, a cloud as small as a man’s hand is coming up from the sea” In a little while the sky for you will grow black with clouds and wind, and there will be a heavy shower.”
This is the season of exceeding fruitfulness as we plough, plant and water by faith. We can expect great things from God and attempt great things for Him when we step out in faith to serve Him.
Our path will be like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until the full day. (Psa 119:105) Thank you for being an instrument of encouragement to us as we follow His signal.
